From The Desk of George Hamrick
It is August.
It is hot. Nobody really wants to do
anything, especially write a newsletter article,
but Jennifer is a stern taskmaster, so I had
better get this done.
I recently had
the opportunity to visit two new Knightdale
businesses on the same day. After work, my
wife and I dropped by The Sports Page to
get something to eat. Good food - Nice Atmosphere
- Reasonable price -- A good place to eat.
Afterwards we decided we also wanted some
dessert so we went to Java & More for a Smoothie
-- a real Summertime treat.
These
two businesses join a growing list of eating
establishments in Knightdale that are giving us
a wider variety of different places to eat. My
experience of visiting these two businesses reinforced
to me what I think is the answer to the
traffic problem. It is simple -- do not go to Raleigh.
Stay in Knightdale - patronize Knightdale businesses
- stay off Highway 64. You then do not
have to hassle with the traffic and there is one
less car sitting in the gridlock. As Knightdale grows,
business opportunities will expand and the
types and varieties of businesses will increase,
but they will only be successful if they are
supported.

Castaway at Laurens Way Business
After Hours was indeed lots of fun! It didn't take long for chamber members to
don their Hawaiian attire (Judy and Chesley Knott of Carolina Typewriter were
the best!) and join in the fun and games at the "Castaway Party" at
Laurens Way Apartments. Members enjoyed sandwiches, fruit, dessert and
rasp-berry ice cream punch while listening to great DJ music by the pool. The
limbo and hula hoop contests were a blast! We were amazed at the limbo abilities
of several guests. Especially, our limbo contest winner, Rondie Simpson of
Kestra Enterprises. How low can one go?! And, Kelly Maddox of Home Exec
Secretarial Services----pretty good, could you walk the next day? The music was
great, the food delicious, and the afternoon included plenty of networking and
socializing. We appreciate the hospitality of Drucker & Falk/Laurens Way
Apartments and we now have proof that you don't have to be Gilligan or Skipper
to enjoy a summer island chamber party--" Castaway at Laurens Way!"

corrections, the chamber has sent in the changes to the map and expect to be
receiving the first layout proof very soon. Knightdale has seen great growth in
the past 2 years and we are working very closely with the Knightdale Planning
Department to assure the most accurate map possible. We are hoping for a final
product around mid-September.
